 A British family is demanding answers from Tui after travelling to fire-ravaged Rhodes on Saturday night. Jess Bailey took a flight from Bristol with her husband and two daughters, aged 11 and 15, and arrived on the Greek island to a scene of 'chaos'. Tourists desperately hoping to catch a flight home were already at the airport when they landed at about 10pm. The family discovered their hotel had been cut off by the raging fires and, after a 'lot of hanging around', were taken to an evacuation centre. 'There were loads of other Tui flights all arriving around the same time from Luton, Manchester, East Midlands and Glasgow,' Ms Bailey told Devon Live. 'Why did TUI fly us and hundreds of other people in when hotels are cut off by wildfires? We spent the night with hundreds of Brits in a Rhodes evacuation centre and I didn't sleep a wink. 'We have had totally useless communication from TUI. They emailed at 4.30am saying, 'you may be experiencing some delays at the airport', and that I can source my own transport to our hotel.' Helen Tonks, a mother-of-six from Cheshire, was also on a Tui flight that landed at 11pm on Saturday and called it a 'living nightmare'. 'We had no idea the fires were this bad or as close to the hotels as they were. Tui said nothing, not even when our flight was delayed. Even the captain's chat on the plane was upbeat. 'We would never have come if we had known.' The evacuation of villages and hotels on Rhodes had started hours before many UK flights would have taken off on Saturday.
