Labour candidate Danny Beales writes for The Mirror about why people should vote for him in Thursday’s Uxbridge & South Ruislip by-election, which was triggered by Boris Johnson’s resignation
Standing to represent my community over these last few weeks has been a privilege. Uxbridge is where I was born and grew up. My family roots here go back to my great-grandparents.
As I reflect on the last few weeks, and the thousands of conversations I’ve had with local people, I’m left feeling humbled by the stories I’ve heard.
The prevailing feeling from local people is one of hopelessness. Families are facing a crisis â because the Tories crashed the economy. Over 10,000 families here now face an extra £450 a month on their mortgage.
Inflation has gone through the roof, food and energy costs are spiralling out of control. I know that local families are terrified about how they are going to pay this price for Tory failure. Many are being forced to cut back on food, travel and clothing. And some face seeing their home repossessed.
