Ezekiel Elliott could be in line to make his first start for the New England Patriots after one of his teammates missed practice on Friday ahead of the Week One opener against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL
Ezekiel Elliott could be in line to make his debut for the New England Patriots this weekend.
Elliott signed a one-year deal – worth $3 million (£2.4 million) which could rise to a total of $6 million (£4.8 million) with incentives – with the Patriots back in August after leaving the Dallas Cowboys at the end of last season. The running back had previously spent seven years in Texas after being drafted with the fourth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
The 28-year-old has previously been regarded as one of the best running backs in the NFL. However, he left the Cowboys as a free agent following the conclusion of the 2022 regular season and faced a lengthy wait before being picked up by a new team.
That team turned out to be the Patriots, and he will now embark on a new career playing for legendary head coach Bill Belichick. The opening game of the 2023 NFL season for the Patriots sees them face NFC East’s Philadelphia Eagles at Foxborough.
