Capcom’s multiplayer dinosaur game is celebrating over a million players, as Sea Of Stars is set to debut on both Game Pass and PS Plus.
The idea of selling a multiplayer-only game, that’s a brand new IP, for £50 seems like just about the worst idea possible in the current climate, but against the odds Capcom’s Exoprimal hasn’t done too bad for itself.
Just a week after release a million players have taken part in the dinosaur-killing online shooter, enough for Capcom to promise a free skin in the update due on August 16.
And yet the game is nowhere to be seen in the physical games charts, which makes it clear that its success is primarily due to it being on Game Pass from day one.
Exoprimal does feature microtransactions, so Capcom can still make money from it, even from people that didn’t originally pay for it, so they’re likely to feel the whole thing has been a reasonable success.
