Ex-mayor drove car at Covid nurse in queue-jumping row, court hears

Vaughan Hewett, from Rainham, allegedly struck Susan Dyett while she was standing in front of his vehicle noting down his number plate

A former mayor drove his car at a Covid nurse in a queue-jumping row, a court has heard.

Vaughan Hewett allegedly drove his car at a hospital Covid testing centre nurse, twice hitting her leg, in a row over queue-jumping.

Mr Hewett was said to be “very angry” that another vehicle had driven into a bay ahead of him, and aggressively told Susan Dyett, an NHS worker, “I pay your wages”, it is claimed.

The 66-year-old, who was elected mayor of Medway Council in Kent in 2012, had taken his wife Jennifer to the “drive-through” testing centre in the grounds of Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham on the morning of April 16 last year.
