 You might be driving for quite some time if you're hoping to get to North Aycliffe. One particular road sign in the market town of Darlington, County Durham tells you that it's only five miles away. But there's just one problem with that, though… it doesn't actually exist. Eagle-eyed road users have spotted the glaring error on the sign that seems to have passed everyone by – until now, of course. The guidepost can be found on North Road and shows the city of Durham as being 17 miles away. Sandwiched between directions for the A1 and Durham, it also tells motorists they'll come across 'N'th Aycliffe' on their journey. We can assure you they won't. In-fact, there isn't even a North Aycliffe in the country, according to Google Maps. The typing faux pas has not gone down too well with some locals, either, with one saying: 'That's absolutely shocking. How long has it been like that?' Another resident said: 'The number of times I have driven past that and never realised.' A confused local said the sign is 'absolutely shocking' (Picture: North News & Pictures) Some have gone as far as reaching out to Darlington MP Peter Gibson to ask him what he is going to do about it. Others claim the sign could have been wrong for as many as 30 years. It's thought the sign, complete with posts, could cost up to £175 to replace. How did it go so wrong?
