The Prime Minister is conducting a review of all his promises from the summer battle with Liz Truss to see if they are still 'deliverable'. It raises the prospect that dozens of the policy pitches he made to Conservative members will be quietly dropped now he is in No 10. Mr Sunak had already dropped more than half a dozen of them during his first week in office, with question marks hanging over many more. 'We are looking at all the campaign pledges and whether it is the right time to take them forward," his press secretary said. "We need to take some time to make sure what is deliverable and what is possible. "Obviously, those are pledges that were made a few months ago now and the context is somewhat different, obviously, economically. We need to look again." Here are some of the key promises he made that are now in doubt. Tax Mr Sunak pledged to take 1p off income tax by April 2024 and reduce the rate by a further 3p by the end of the decade, though his spokesman had already cast doubt on the idea. He also promised to suspend VAT on domestic energy bills for a year, which he said would save the average household £160. On top of that he unveiled plans for 'radical business tax reform to improve productivity and investment' in 2023. Transport The Prime Minister vowed to bring in a 'comprehensive ban' on the building of new smart motorways and funnel money into upgrading existing ones to make them safer. He also pledged to clamp down on rogue private parking firms by bringing in new rules allowing motorists to appeal fines. Mr Sunak also said he would review controversial low traffic neighbourhoods that were brought in by most London boroughs during the pandemic.
