European Ryder Cup star makes remarkable “hole-in-one” in final warm-up

Team Europe will be hoping Norwegian Viktor Hovland continues from where he left off when the Ryder Cup starts properly after he hit a hole-in-one during practice to the delight of his peers

Team Europe’s Viktor Hovland hit an incredible hole-in-one on the par four 5th hole in a remarkable moment at the final Ryder Cup practice.

The biggest cheer of the practice at Marco Simone went up as the Norwegian aced the aced 302-yard hole, with his teammates soon surrounding him. The world No. 4 hit a driver onto the green before it rolled in with Hovland watching his ball all the way as he held his breath.

This was much to the delight of Matthew Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton and Ludvig Aberg, who mobbed their playing partner. Now, his European teammates will be hoping he is able to repeat his heroics when it really counts as the Ryder Cup gets underway in Rome on Friday.

His heroics came just one day before the start of the Ryder Cup, where Hovland is participating for a second time. To put his feat into some context, only six times has the competition seen aces, with these coming decades apart from the likes of Peter Butler in 1973, alongside Paul Casey and Scott Verplank in 2006.
