Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has taken the Premier League by storm following his blockbuster summer move from Borussia Dortmund, as he has scored 17 goals in 11 league games for Pep Guardiola’s side. The Norwegian has terrorised defences, with another five Champions League goals in four games, and could be the missing piece of the puzzle as City go in search of their first-ever Champions League trophy this season. But it could have been very different for the 22-year-old striker. The goal machine joined Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg, who signed him Molde in Norway, and before then he was at Bryne, where Haaland had the chance to sign for Everton. Toffees icon Duncan Ferguson explained how the striker was at the club as a teenager on trial, but they passed on signing him as his parent club wanted a fee of a couple million pounds.’I mean my God, what a phenomenal player Erling Haaland is,’ Ferguson told William Hill. ‘He’s going to be incredible, isn’t he? But believe it or not, he was in at Everton. His Dad had brought him in at Everton and they never signed him!’He was brought in at about 15 or 16 years of age and the team he was with at the time [Bryne] wanted a couple of million quid for him and Everton wouldn’t buy him. Everton didn’t think it was the right move for them at the time…’ Everton turned down the chance to sign Erling Haaland. (Image: GETTY)Everton’s Scandinavian scout Bryan King even claimed that Haaland could have signed for the club for as little as £60,000. “We could have had him for a compensation fee of £60,000,’ King told The Times. “But the consensus was he was so young and so big that once he got older and other players got bigger too, he’d lose his effectiveness.”Everton are one of the few teams that Haaland has not scored against this season, as Manchester City are due to face Frank Lampard’s side on New Year’s Eve, where he can get revenge on them for turning down the opportunity to sign him.DON’T MISSJuventus have ‘true stance’ on Spurs boss Conte as private chat leakedWhat Arsenal medics ‘believe’ about Bukayo Saka injuryCristiano Ronaldo loses Man Utd dressing room title after record beat Duncan Ferguson detailed how Everton could have signed Erling Haaland.
