Manchester United suffered another defeat on Wednesday, this time coming up clear second-best against Bayern Munich in their Champions League group stage opener
Erik ten Hag has become the first Manchester United manager to lose three games in a row since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer more than four years ago.
The Red Devils were on the wrong end of a 4-3 thriller away to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday, although the scoreline flattered them. Ten Hag’s men were by far the inferior side at the Allianz Arena, despite Bayern not being at their best.
Still United were beaten, though, making it three consecutive defeats for Ten Hag and co. The loss in Munich, stemming from an early goalkeeping howler made by new £47million signing Andre Onana, followed Saturday’s embarrassing 3-1 drubbing at home to Brighton, two weeks on from another bruising 3-1 loss, this time at Arsenal.
The result leaves the Red Devils bottom of their Champions League group after matchday one, as Galatasaray drew 2-2 with Copenhagen in Wednesday’s other fixture. It was April 2019 when Solskjaer lost three on the bounce, as heavy defeats away to Barcelona and Everton came before more humiliation in the Manchester Derby at Old Trafford, losing 2-0.
