Erik ten Hag introduces new Man Utd training rule in bid to improve slow start to season

Manchester United have picked up just two wins from their opening four Premier League games and Erik ten Hag wants to see the Red Devils seriously improve following the September international break

Erik ten Hag is making Manchester United’s players stay longer at their training ground following the Red Devils’ shoddy start to the new season.

Sat 11th in the Premier League after four games, with only two narrow wins and two bruising losses to their name, United are under pressure to make a significant improvement following the recent international break. With Brighton visiting Old Trafford on Saturday and expected to provide a tricky test, Ten Hag is doing everything that he possibly can to ensure his team are ready to ignite their stuttering campaign.

That includes keeping them under his watch for longer, as according to the Daily Mail, stars like Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Casemiro are being urged to remain at the club’s Carrington training base until after lunch. United want the first-team squad to make use of their newly-refurbished canteen as opposed to eating at fine dining restaurants near their swanky homes.

The Red Devils recruited a new head chef, Omar Mezian, from the FA earlier this year in an effort to improve nutrition at Carrington. United’s pre-season tour of North American also saw a push for this, as it’s reported that recently-promoted Ed Leng – previously the club’s lead sport scientist – is now head of physical performance and believed to have played a vital role.
