Erik ten Hag backtracks on Jadon Sancho tactical plan and ignores Marcus Rashford

Erik ten Hag continued to get his instructions over to his Manchester United players during Wednesday evening’s defeat to Real Madrid but already appears to have abandoned one idea

Manchester United have just over two weeks remaining until their opening game of the Premier League season.

The Red Devils take on Wolves at Old Trafford on August 14 and Erik ten Hag has been putting his squad through its paces in pre-season. That continued on Wednesday as United clashed with Spanish giants Real Madrid and it appears that the Dutchman has already abandoned one of his ideas.

During United’s first three matches against Leeds, Lyon and Arsenal, winger Jadon Sancho was handed a central striking role. He was named in the starting line-up in all three of those clashes, also finding the net in the 2-0 win against Arsenal.

The United side had a completely different set-up against Real Madrid. Sancho was left on the sidelines in place of Marcus Rashford, who was instead handed the central striking role. It is not a position that is unfamiliar for the 25-year-old having played there on a number of occasions.
