England’s Beth Mead won’t back Qatar World Cup over LGBTQ+ stance

NEWS… BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

England Euro 2022 winner and Ballon d’Or runner-up Beth Mead says it is ‘disappointing’ the men’s World Cup is being held in Qatar.

The Arsenal forward, who is openly gay, does not think the Gulf state is the ‘right place’ for the tournament – which begins later this month – to be staged.

Homosexuality is illegal in Qatar and many England fans who are members of the LGBTQ+ community are believed to have decided against attending.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4, the 27-year-old said: ‘It’s not something I will be backing or promoting.
