England v Japan: Forwards can dominate but Marcus Smith and Owen Farrell need the ball sooner

There is no need for England to panic. Defeat against Argentina was obviously disappointing and unexpected, despite Argentina’s huge improvements and victories over Scotland, New Zealand and Australia this year.

But Eddie Jones was right when he said that for the most part England dominated the game. They did. I played in Wales matches when we’d come off and think, ‘How on earth have we lost that because we seemed to be all over them?’ And the England players will have thought the same on Sunday, particularly the forwards. I actually feel for them a bit. They did a lot of excellent work and were not rewarded for that with points.
