Your garden will be the envy of your neighbourhood with this inexpensive superfood that’s guaranteed to ensure your roses bloom while keeping weeds at bay
Roses, whether in containers or planted straight into a bed, always elevate a garden space, but making sure you’re taking the proper care of your plants and fertilising them in the autumn is essential for ensuring the quality and quantity of blooms you’ll see each year.
Whatever variety you’ve opted for, from climbers to bushes, experts have said that one superfood promises to encourage “vigorous” growth, and keep pesky weeds out of your way, and the best part? It’s yours for less than a takeaway coffee, costing only £1. Alfafa is a fertiliser that comes in cubes, hay, pellets and a meal you can sprinkle on the base of your plants after watering.
It promises “increased bloom production” and encourages vigorous growth by providing rose plants with a huge range of nutrients including, phosphorus, iron, calcium, magnesium and nitrogen, the Express reports.
That’s not all that alfafa provides your roses with, it also “yields an alcohol, triacontanol, to which roses take a particular shine”, according to experts at Wegman’s Nursery, who explain that roses respond to this alcohol reaching their roots enthusiastically, and you’ll soon be likely to see new and increased growth at the buds of your roses.
