Emissary has the quality to lift Melbourne Cup

Emissary looks a good bet at 25-1 with Coral and Ladbrokes to land the Lexus Melbourne Cup (4am) in the early hours at Flemington tomorrow morning.

Formerly trained in Newmarket by Hugo Palmer, Emissary looked a good prospect in 2020, beaten a neck by subsequent Derby runner-up Khalifa Sat at Goodwood before flopping at Epsom himself.

He ended his career in Britain with a comfortable win at Yarmouth that year and was subsequently sold to race in Australia for 350,000 guineas (£367,500).

He then clearly had a problem as he was not seen again until March this year when struggling on heavy ground on his debut for his new trainer, Michael Moroney.

Emissary looked better than ever when returning to the track this month, though,
