The tech mogul bought the social media platform last year and implemented a raft of changes including a swathe of cuts to the workforce and a subscription service. Mr Musk, 52, told Twitter users "we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds." He then tweeted a picture of a potential new logo, replacing the bird that has been theface of Twitter since its foundation, so a simple 'X.' This would be "to embody the imperfections in us all that make us unique," Mr Musk claimed. It comes after an October tweet by the world's second-richest man suggested he plans to roll Twitter into a new app. "Buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app," he posted. Experts have speculated this would be a Swiss-army knife-type app that has multiple functions from organising online payments, messaging, social networking and other features. This has been compared to WeChat, the Chinese super app with over 1billion users. On WeChat, users can do everything from making payments to calling a taxi. Mr Musk bought Twitter last year for an astronomical $44billion last year, slashing what he says is around 80 per cent of the workforce in the process. He called the cuts "painful", but claimed they were necessary to stop the company bleeding cash. 'This is not a caring [or] uncaring situation. It's like if the whole ship sinks, then nobody's got a job,' Mr Musk said in an interview with the BBC in April.
