Former US President says platform is ‘back in sane hands’ after $44bn sale to billionaire
Donald Trump has praised the return of Twitter into “sane hands” as its new owner Elon Musk paved the way for his ban from the site to be lifted.
Mr Musk – a self-proclaimed free speech absolutist who opposed the original decision to bar the former US President – said on Friday that he would form a “content moderation council” with the power to lift lifetime bans after taking control of Twitter in a $44bn (£33bn) deal.
Mr Trump, who was removed from Twitter after his supporters attacked the US Capitol in 2021, said he was delighted that Twitter had been freed from the grip of “radical left lunatics”.
It came after Mr Musk sacked a swathe of senior executives, including Twitter’s boss and chief legal officer, saying “let the good times roll” in a post on the social media site.
