The emergency accommodation for displaced Ukrainians at the Electric Picnic site looks more like a glamping holiday village than a refugee tent city.
An army of workers were busy last week erecting about 250 canvas bell tents on a seven-acre field at the eastern edge of Stradbally Hall. Days after revellers left the annual music festival, the campsite had been transformed into a temporary home for hundreds of new arrivals.
The tents, which all have electricity, are connected by a maze of outdoor paths leading to bathroom and laundry facilities, and a covered dining hall that serves three meals a day. There is 24-hour security, wi-fi access and a recreation area where games and televisions will be set up.
