 An elderly man was attacked by a nearly 7-foot-long alligator while walking on a golf course. The 79-year-old was walking on a golf course community where he resides just after 5am on Thursday 'when an alligator came up and bit him in the leg', stated the Collier County Sheriff's Office. A sheriff's deputy provided first aid to the man. Meanwhile, a second deputy saw the alligator leaving the scene and going to a lake. The deputy watched the gator and told a trapper where it went, according to the sheriff's department. A trapper safely caught the reptile, which was 6 feet 9 inches long. The gator was taken out of the Forest Glen and Golf Course community in Naples, Florida. The man was airlifted to a hospital for treatment. It was not immediately known if the female alligator had a nest close to where it attacked the man. 'It is alligator mating season, and CCSO urges residents to be cautious around bodies of water and vegetation where an alligator could have a nest,' stated the sheriff's office. The office added that gators are most active from dusk to dawn and that residents should 'plan accordingly to reduce the chance of running into them'. It is not the first time this year than an alligator has been found on a golf course. In March, a gator was filmed breaking through a metal fence at a private golf course in Placida, Florida. The gator managed to get its forelegs and half of its body through by prying a gap in the fence. However, it ultimately got stuck and had to have humans help it get through. 'He got stuck in between and we had to help him out but the fence, which is aluminum, did get damaged,' said WINK meteorologist Matt Devitt.
