Eight in ten football fans say chants are key part of atmosphere when watching a match

And they have shared their top 10 favourite football chants about specific players – with Peter Crouch and John Terry topping the list

Eight in ten football fans (81%) say that funny chants are a key part of watching a live match – and have shared their top 10 favourite chants that have gone down in football history.

Peter Crouch, Harry Redknapp, and Rio Ferdinand are some of the players who have had the funniest chants made up about them – with famously tall Crouch taking the top spot for having the best fan chant.

During his Liverpool career from 2005 to 2008, fans would chant “He’s big, he’s red, his feet stick out the bed” about the six foot six tall striker.

Meanwhile, Dean Martin’s 1953 hit “That’s Amore” inspired an affectionate tribute to ex-West Ham striker, Bobby Zamora, as fans sang “When you’re sat in row Z, and the ball hits your head, that’s Zamora”.
