Some 67 days after Josh Windass’ header in the dying seconds of extra-time secured promotion from League One for Sheffield Wednesday at Barnsley’s expense, it’ll be the Owls who kick off the new EFL season on Friday night when Southampton come calling in the Championship.
The Saints had a very different end to last season of course, as their 11-year stay in the Premier League came to a dismal end with a meek relegation.
Can they bounce back at the first time of asking? How will fellow relegated sides Leeds and Leicester get on? Who will drop down to League One?
