Once you have informed an old housemate that they are out of a job, even the trickiest selection decisions are probably less daunting.
Eddie Jones does not need a moment to pick out his toughest experience of dropping somebody. Towards the tail end of the 1998 Super Rugby campaign, his first as boss of the Brumbies, he confronted a horrible task.
“Definitely the most difficult one was David Knox, who I lived with,” Jones says of an ex-Randwick team-mate in an exclusive interview to launch the Telegraph Rugby Podcast.
“We played together, lived together, had a lot of fun together. Then I became the Brumbies coach and he was a 36-year-old No 10.
