EastEnders sweep the board at NTAs with hattrick of soap awards ahead of Christmas death

EastEnders took home all three of the soap prizes at the National Television Awards tonight ahead of their huge Christmas storyline

EastEnders triumphed at the National Television Awards tonight, taking home all three soap prizes.

It was a great night for the folk of Albert Square, who impressed by securing both of the prizes in the serial dramas categories as well as the Rising Star Award. It was an exciting night for the BBC One soap, which is set to air some shocking scenes later this year when one man ends up dead at Christmas on Sharon’s wedding day. We are yet to find out who the man is, why he is dead and what the Six women – Denise (Diane Parish), Kathy (Gillian Taylforth), Linda (Kellie Bright), Sharon (Letitia Dean), Stacey (Lacey Turner) and Suki (Balvinder Sopal) – have to do with the man’s passing this festive season.

Tonight at the National Television Awards, it was a big win for Danielle Harold, who played Lola Pearce-Brown in the BBC soap, as she won Serial Drama Performance. Lola tragically passed away earlier this year in sad scenes after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. Elsewhere, Bobby Brazier, who plays Freddie Slater, picked up the Rising Star Award and Serial Drama went to EastEnders.

It’s a big year for the BBC One soap with a fire set to take hold of Kathy’s cafe this Autumn. At Christmas, one man will lose his life in a shock turn of events as Sharon walks down the aisle – but who is the man?
