Duke of York’s ex-wife quashes rumours by claiming she spoke to Netflix show’s producer about adapting her novel for television
The Duchess of York has distanced herself from claims that she offered to advise the makers of The Crown on her own character, following widespread criticism of the new series.
She is reported to have been in touch with the executive producer of the Netflix show, previously joking about her limited storylines to ask: “Hello? Where is Fergie?”
In fact, a spokesman said, she had been in contact only to discuss adapting her own romantic novel, Her Heart For A Compass, into a television series.
While a “mutual friend” had suggested that she could help with The Crown, neither the Duchess nor Andy Harries, one of the show’s executive producers, had carried the conversation forward, he said.
