Dublin businesses enrolling staff in self-defence after spate of attacks

A growing number of businesses have enrolled staff in self-defence classes in the past year, following an increasing number of high-profile attacks in the capital.

Eddie Gavin, an instructor at Krav Maga Academy Fingal in Swords, said he had experienced a big increase in the number of city centre-based firms seeking self-defence classes for their staff.

“Staff are approaching management themselves asking for these classes because they’re obviously reading the news and they can see the increase in attacks,” he said.

“For example, we completed two six-week programmes with the staff of the Rotunda Hospital recently. The staff don’t park on-site so when they leave work they have to walk to wherever their car park is. They always knew there was a chance that they
