Drivers warned about wet weather driving mistake that could land them with £5,000 fine

A lesser-known driving rule could leave drivers facing a hefty fine, and even the most law abiding motorists could be at risk if they’re not up to date with the rules of the road

Even drivers who think they are the most law-abiding motorists are at risk of breaking peculiar hidden laws that could face them with some pretty heavy fines. But it’s up to those behind the wheel to make sure they’re up to date with the rules of the road. With the wet weather looming over this dreary August, and with more rain forecast, drivers have been warned about an easy mistake that can be made when driving in the rain – resulting in a hefty £5,000 fine.

Even though it’s inevitable sometimes to have to make trips when the rain is pelting down, luckily in a car you can get there in a dry manner. But did you know splashing a pedestrian could lump you with the unfriendly fine? According to Go Car Credit, they claim that: “Splashing a pedestrian in the UK is illegal. You can be prosecuted under section 3 of the Road Traffic Act. You could be fined up to £5000 and gain three points on your licence.”

Although it can be hard to dodge the puddles, especially if there’s been heavy rain, Brits are warned this lesser-known rule could have expensive consequences. Those found to purposely drive through puddles and splash pedestrians will likely be hit with a £100 fixed penalty notice and three penalty points if caught by police, but it can escalate to a £5,000 fine if the driver is found to show a clear act of ‘incompetence, selfishness, impatience, and aggressiveness’.

Another law drivers could easily break without realising is the position of their Sat-Nav. Sometimes it’s a must when travelling somewhere new to ensure you don’t get lost, drivers are warned their trusty Sat-Nav could result in breaking the law and lead them to face a fine.
