Under the charges, an annual estate parking permit for diesel vehicles in Hackney will cost £213 this year. However, it will have skyrocketed to £1,249 by 2029-30. This also includes a £200 surcharge, which will climb by £50 every year - seeing all diesel drivers likely to have to cough up £500 extra compared to other cars. Those who drive petrol vehicles will see their costs climb four times higher - from £97 to £433 - over the space of five years. In contrast, electric vehicle drivers will only have to pay £10 extra over that period. Save London Motorcycling has slammed the charges, dubbing the steep costs "outrageous". The group told the Telegraph : 'The fact that they want to increase these already outrageous charges every year just adds insult to injury. "If this carries on, some riders will soon have to pay over £1,000 for the tiny bit of parking space they use.' Mete Coban, the council's lead on transport and environment, said: 'In developing our parking charges, we've listened to our residents, who have asked for long-term certainty about permit prices, so they can make informed decisions.'
