 Lori Vallow Daybell, the 'Doomsday mom' who was found guilty of murdering her two children, has appealed her conviction. Attorneys for Vallow are now hoping the Idaho Supreme Court will overturn the guilty verdict after examining alleged errors in her two year-long trial. Vallow was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of two of her children, 16-year-old Tylee Ryan and 7-year-old Joshua 'JJ' Daybell. Her children were last seen in September 2019. In June 2020, their remains were discovered by investigators buried in her husband Chad Daybell's backyard. In July, she was sentenced to life in prison without parole. On Tuesday, Vallow's attorney James Archibald filed an appeal to the Idaho Supreme Court, detailing 16 procedural errors that they claim occurred during her trial. First on Archibald's list was Vallow's mental state made her competent to stand trial. According to the filing, Archibald is asking the court to consider if the lower court was correct in ordering her competent shortly after she spent 10 months in a mental hospital. Archibald also requested that the state assign Vallow a public defender, as she can no longer afford to pay her legal fees.
