Dominic West offered to quit Prince’s Trust over Charles role in Netflix’s The Crown

Dominic West, the actor who plays Prince Charles in the new series of The Crown, offered to resign as an ambassador to the Prince’s Trust after accepting the role because of a potential conflict of interest.

But his suggestion was refused and West, who met the then Prince of Wales several times, was effectively told by Charles’s private secretary: “You do what you like, you’re actor.”

The actor also revealed in an interview with Radio Times how his affection for the new King had grown since Charles acceded to the throne.

The Netflix series, which has been widely criticised for portraying a fictionalised version of events without including a disclaimer at the start of each programme, includes the notorious Tampongate affair, in which a
