Officers at Nottinghamshire Police took in Staffy Ziggy in August last year after being kept in his owner’s cupboard where he weighed 7st and his claws were growing into his paw pads
A portly pooch who could barely toddle has shed a quarter of his body weight – after being taken in by cops.
Staffordshire Bull Terrier Ziggy had been living a life of inertia before his life was turned around, spending most of his days locked in a cupboard by his owner. Ziggy’s lifestyle was so bad, his claws were beginning to grow into his paw pads.
When officers were called out to the house where he was being kept in Worksop, Notts., last August, they immediately spotted him and could see his misery. Ziggy was brought to Nottinghamshire Police’s local nick before officers then took him to a dogs home.
Tipping the scales at 45kg (7st), he weighed about the same as a 13-year-old child. But thanks to the efforts of local rescue staff, the mutt has managed to drop and impressive 10kg (1st 5oz) over the past 12 months.
