This heartbroken dog owner has been left devastated as her beloved pooch managed to open the car windows and jump out whilst the car was moving – leaving him unable to use his back legs
A dog owner has been left heartbroken after her beloved pooch managed to jump out of the car window onto a busy road leaving him partially paralysed. The dog had somehow opened the window by stepping on the electric button, despite being in a harness and fastened seat cover.
Left devastated, owners Hannah, 48, and Damon 54, are coming to terms with their once energetic and playful pup who is now unable to use his back legs. Four-year-old Ozzy, a Shar Pei, now has to drag himself along the floor after the tragic incident and now the couple hope to highlight the warnings to other dog owners of the dangers of driving with pets.
Never thinking their dog would ever be able to open the window himself, Hannah and Damon suggest all owners get a secondary safety belt for their pets. “He’s having to drag himself along the floor as he’s so wobbly and his back legs are numb,” Hannah, from Oldham, explained. “It’s been soul-destroying, as he was so energetic before and it’s been very hard for us to come to terms with how he is now.”
Ozzy, who frequently travelled in the car, had a safety setup with a seatbelt attached to his harness and a fastened seat cover, which acts as a car seat. It happened during a busy rush hour period as the attachments reportedly became loose and the pet managed to step onto the electric window button, creating the perfect escape route.
