Doctor charged for ‘raping and drugging unconscious patients on camera’

Zhi Alan Cheng has been accused of sexual assaulting dates and patients after drugging them. A New York City doctor has been charged with drugging and sexually assaulting six women while filming the sick acts. Zhi Alan Cheng, 33, a gastroenterologist at New York Presbyterian Queens, was arrested last December after his girlfriend alleged that he knocked her unconscious by holding an N95 surgical mask with an unknown liquid over her face. She awoke with no recollection of what happened but claimed to have found a video of Cheng sexually assaulting her alongside footage of him attacking other women. Prosecutors found the videos alongside numerous drugs at Cheng’s Astoria apartment – including LSD, Ketamine and surgical anaesthesia, it has been claimed. The now-fired doctor has been charged with three counts of rape, ten counts of predatory sexual assault, seven for sexual abuse, and four counts of assault, prosecutors announced Monday. The alleged victims are patients and former partners. Zhi Alan Cheng was fired from New Presbyterian Hospital in Queens. One woman – 19 years old at the time – was allegedly sexually assaulted by Cheng at the hospital in Queens while she was his patient. Prosecutors said the doctor gave her a rectal exam, which was unnecessary for her gallbladder treatment, before injecting her with liquid and then raping her, according to a report in the New York Times. Although charges focus on the assaults of just six victims, prosecutors say there are likely more. Known victims range from 19 to 47 years old. The videos found at his apartment allegedly show Cheng committing the depraved acts in New York, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Thailand although he has not been charged in connection to all of those incidents. “For someone to rise to this level where you are drugging and raping a person, that doesn’t happen overnight,” the attorney for the 19-year-old victim, Nicholas Liakas, told NBC New York. He added: “You have essentially a predator in a white coat.” The victim alleged Cheng attacked her in June 2021 – more than a year before his December arrest. She claims she made a complaint to the hospital that went nowhere. Queens district attorney urged anyone with leads on the case to step forward and said the evidence shows Cheng is “a sexual predator of the absolute worst kind, a serial rapist”. In one alleged 2021 attack, Cheng is accused of groping a 37-year-old woman at the Queens hospital while she lay unconscious. Prosecutors say that a short time later he raped a woman whom he met on a dating app and filmed the alleged crime.
