Do not approach the mink, warns sheriff after 40,000 released by activists

As many as 10,000 animals are still unaccounted for after a break-in at an Ohio farm by the Animal Liberation Front

Authorities in Ohio had to bring in a plough to clear thousands of mink carcasses from a highway after animal rights activists released 40,000 of the creatures from a nearby farm.

As many as 10,000 minks were still unaccounted for on Thursday after a break-in at a farm in Hoaglin Township, 150 miles north of Cincinnati.

Local residents were urged to look out for their pets and livestock and warned not to approach the minks.

“These minks are considered domesticated animals. Domesticated mink generally will not survive in the wild because they lack natural survival skills,” Van Wert County Sheriff’s office said.
