Kemi Badenoch says her new panel of experts will produce clear, unbiased advice on how to apply the Equality Act (“Diversity obsession has led to Kafkaesque madness”, News, last week). That is welcome but it should not be necessary. Organisations set up to advise on diversity and inclusion should be explaining the law as it is written. Instead, pressure groups have been advocating what they term “best practice”, often encouraging businesses to adopt policies that many of us believe actually contravene the law.
Many of these advisers are registered charities. They should be investigated by the Charity Commission. There is no “public benefit” in their activities. Rather, they are causing serious harm.Gordon Raw, Dunblane, Stirlingshire
