Manchester United star Raphael Varane has been left fuming by new rules that will see Premier League games last more than 100 minutes, but Dimitar Berbatov has dismissed the defender’s concerns
Former Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov has dismissed Raphael Varane’s concerns over the new rules that will see games extended to more than 100 minutes.
Referees have been told to add on extra added time to properly take into account any stoppage in play and combat time wasting. The rules were first seen during last winter’s World Cup and will now be implemented in the Premier League and EFL.
But the changes have been met by a backlash from players and manager, with United defender Varane a vocal opponent. The Frenchman has cited the increased workloads on players as the main factor in his concerns.
Berbatov though believes that the rule changes are a positive move by football’s authorities. The Premier League icon insisted he was in favour of the new rules and that the players will eventually come around to the idea.
