Dems fear Elon Musk’s Twitter deal could help Donald Trump in 2024

Elon Musk completed his $44billion (£38billion) Twitter deal on Friday after months of toing and froing between the Tesla CEO and social media platform. Democrat strategists fear Elon Musk’s Twitter deal could have “terrible ramifications” as Donald Trump considers running for the White House in 2024, a report has claimed. (Image: Getty)Speaking to the Financial Times about the decision to ban the 45th President, the Tesla CEO said: “I think that if there are tweets that are wrong and bad those should be either deleted or made invisible and a temporary suspension is appropriate but not a permanent ban.”Twitter banned Mr Trump in the wake of the January 6 insurrection in 2021 after its leadership expressed fears about further violence occurring as a result of his posts on the social media platform.Responding to Mr Musk’s deal, Mr Trump said: “I am very happy that Twitter is now in sane hands, and will no longer be run by Radical Left Lunatics and Maniacs that truly hate our country.”Speaking to Fox News, the ex-POTUS added: “I am staying on Truth. (Image: Getty)Mr Trump has hinted at running in the next election since he went back on the campaign trail after a brief hiatus following his defeat in 2020.Polling website RealClearPolitics has given Joe Biden a narrow 0.3 percent lead in the opinion polls.Such a slight lead for Mr Biden could be enough for Mr Trump to flip Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin back into the Republican column.Upcoming midterm election contests on November 8 could prove crucial to both Mr Trump and Mr Biden as the 45th President mulls over whether to launch a third bid and his successor looks to shore up support in Congress.
