Decree on oil boilers is a rural Ulez, says George Eustice

A former environment secretary has urged the government to drop a forthcoming ban on new oil boilers being installed in rural homes, describing it as an Ulez for those communities.

George Eustice said homeowners should instead be encouraged to use more environmentally friendly fuels.

The ban is due to come into effect in 2026. The hope is that owners of properties not connected to the gas grid will switch to heat pumps.

Eustice, the Conservative MP for Camborne & Redruth, was environment secretary for two and a half years under Boris Johnson.
