Manchester United forward made several allegations about the club and their treatment of him – does he have a point?
Cristiano Ronaldo’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan has satisfied both men’s egos by dominating the football news agenda as intended when his claims about his treatment at Manchester United were published on Sunday night. But how much of what he said was true?
Categorically untrue. In fact it was the other way around with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes touting him to the biggest clubs in Europe – meeting with Chelsea’s new owner Todd Boehly and trying to persuade Bayern Munich to sign him.
Ronaldo will argue this was because he did not feel he had a future at United but that had certainly not been communicated to him by Erik ten Hag who actually surprised senior figures at United by being so enthusiastic about Ronaldo.
Ten Hag believed it would be counter-productive to jettison a striker who had scored 18 Premier League goals in a struggling team when there were other priorities to address.
