Declan Rice responds after Roy Keane’s brutal blast at Arsenal summer signing

Declan Rice was handed his competitive debut by Mikel Arteta in the Community Shield and the new Arsenal midfielder helped his side to the first trophy of the season

Declan Rice says he’s “buzzing” to help Arsenal lift the Community Shield with a penalty shootout win over Manchester City – despite brutal criticism from Roy Keane.

Mikel Arteta’s side left it late to take the game to penalties after Cole Palmer had given City. Leandro Trossard’s deflected effort found the back of the net in the 101st minute to ensure the game would be decided by a shootout after a period of sustained pressure from the Gunners.

And it was Arsenal who kept their nerve to win 4-1 on penalties and claim the first trophy of the season. Arteta cut a delighted figure following the full-time whistle as he got one over Pep Guardiola – after City won all three meetings last term.

But before the match, all eyes were on Arsenal’s three summer arrivals as Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber were handed their competitive debuts. It seemed like Rice had a little bit more to prove, however, after Keane aimed a harsh dig at the England international – claiming the Gunners paid too much for him.
