David De Gea has told Manchester United chiefs his recent yawning emoji tweet wasn’t aimed at the club, reports say. The Spain international is a free agent after his contract expired last week. The Red Devils are on the verge of landing Andre Onana, with the Inter Milan star keen to move to Old Trafford. Manchester United saw De Gea’s contract expire last week. The veteran had previously been expected to extend his stay at Old Trafford but, after some costly errors at the end of last season, now looks set to leave. Earlier in the week, De Gea set tongues wagging by tweeting a yawning emoji. Some believed this to be the 32-year-old’s way of saying he’s tired at the way United have handled his situation. But De Gea, according to the Manchester Evening News , has now clarified his message to the club’s hierarchy. Regarding De Gea, meanwhile, United legend Rio Ferdinand has slammed his old side’s treatment of his former team-mate. ‘Put aside whether you think David de Gea is good enough, he’s been an unreal servant to the football club,’ he stated. ‘Twelve years I think he’s had at the club, been player of the year four or five times and been the best player in a few of those years. ‘He had moments where it didn’t go well but in the main he served the club remarkably well.
