David Moyes told he made two key mistakes at Man Utd after succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson

Rene Meulensteen had a unique perspective at Manchester United, having spent six years working with Sir Alex Ferguson, and he was not impressed with David Moyes’ moves in succeeding him

David Moyes’ spell in charge of Manchester United was doomed for failure from the outset due to the way he went about succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson, according to Rene Meulensteen.

Moyes was chosen to follow Ferguson upon his retirement as United manager in 2013 but lasted just 10 months of his six-year contract. Ferguson had been in charge for 27 years at Old Trafford and left huge shoes for the former Everton boss to fill.

Meulensteen worked as Ferguson’s assistant for the final six years of his trophy-laden reign. He left the club in the summer of 2013 after Moyes decided to bring in his own coaching staff and watched from afar as it all fell apart for the Scot.

“Manchester United experienced a difficult transition in the spell after Sir Alex’s retirement,” he writes in his new book, Rene Meulensteen: United, Sir Alex And Me . “I believe managers need 18 months to really see the value of their work pay off and to create consistency.
