Heavy rain fell during Lionel Messi’s unveiling as an Inter Miami player after the Argentina captain signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Major League Soccer club
David Beckham almost hit the deck after slipping during Lionel Messi’s unveiling as an Inter Miami player on Sunday.
Messi, 36, has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Miami after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired. It’s the first time the Barcelona legend, who won the World Cup with Argentina last year, will play first-team club football outside of Europe.
Miami co-owner Beckham played a blinder to lure Messi to Major League Soccer (MLS) amid competition from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Barcelona. Beckham has also persuaded Messi’s former Barcelona team-mate Sergio Busquets to join Miami.
Messi was unveiled at Miami’s DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale in front of a sellout crowd, with Beckham hailing the signing as a “dream come true”. He was welcomed to the United States by NFL icon Tom Brady and basketball hero Stephen Curry.
