England captain Harry Kane has completed a move from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich just one day before the London side are due to start their Premier League campaign
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has said the club had to sell Harry Kane after the striker said he was ready for a new challenge and would not be renewing his contract.
England captain Kane has completed his record-breaking move to the Allianz Arena, taking the number nine shirt at his new club. Bayern will pay up to £100m for the 30-year-old, smashing a transfer record which previously sat at the £72m they paid for Lucas Hernandez in 2019.
Had Kane moved in 2024, the price tag would have been zero. The striker had entered the final year of his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and Levy has revealed Kane had made it clear he would not extend it beyond that point.
“We sought over a long period of time to engage Harry and his representatives in several forms of contract extension, both short and long term,” Levy said. “Harry was clear, however, that he wanted a fresh challenge and would not be signing a new contract this summer. We have reluctantly, therefore, agreed to his transfer.
