Starz’s recent adaption of Dangerous Liaisons landed on screens with a new insight into the French classic. With viewers just two episodes into season one, the series proved to be a huge hit with network bosses who renewed the drama for a second instalment. Dangerous Liaisons is one of many adaptations which stem from the 1782 novel, Les Liaisons Dangereuses which was first published by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. The original story of Dangerous Liaisons followed Marquise de Mertreuil and the Vicomte de Valmont who set off on a twisted journey of seduction and manipulation. However, unlike the other films and stage plays, this iteration is based on a single letter in the epistolary which showrunners discovered in the novel. While the novel became an instant sensation, the latest adaptation serves as a prequel to the early days of their relationship.READ MORE: Prince William and Kate ‘upset’ with Mike Tindall’s I’m A Celeb stint Dangerous Liaisons will return for season two (Image: Starz) Dangerous Liaisons stars Alice Englert as Marquise de Mertreuil (Image: Starz) Dangerous Liaisons series serves as a prequel (Image: Starz) Dangerous Liaisons: tells the origin story of Marquise and Vicomte (Image: Starz)While this was welcomed news for viewers, it was a dream realised for showrunner Harriet Warner who had previously shared her hopes for the series.
