Damar Hamlin’s emotional NFL return delayed again after Week 1 disappointment

Ahead of the second game of the season for the Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was ruled out again, but he could make his season debut in Week 3 against the Washington Commanders

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin will have to wait at least another week for his long-awaited return to the NFL after being listed inactive for Week 2.

Hamlin was a healthy scratch for Week 1 when the Bills lost in overtime against the New York Jets, and he’s been ruled out for their first home game of the season too. The Bills face the Las Vegas Raiders at Highmark Stadium, but head coach Sean McDermott is understandably being cautious with Hamlin’s return.

The 25-year-old hasn’t played since Week 17 of the 2022 season, when he suffered a cardiac arrest on the field against the Cincinnati Bengals. After a lengthy stoppage, the game was abandoned and later called a no-contest due to the extreme circumstances.

Hamlin’s return has been inspiring, and he’s since turned his attention to promoting awareness for cardiac arrests in young athletes. He remains on the 53-man roster and his return will come, but the franchise are making sure that there are no risks before allowing him back onto the field.
