Cruise expert explains how to get the ‘cheapest’ cruise

Cruise passengers can save with some simple tips (Image: Getty) Cruise holidays are becoming more expensive and although a lot is included in the price, hidden charges can mean costs quickly add up. However, there are still a few tips British tourists can use to cut down on the cost of a cruise holiday . Grace Sandwith, commercial director at Iglu Cruise , shared her top tips to save money on a cruise. She recommends signing up for emails from a favourite cruise company as those passengers will usually be the first to access deals. Grace said: ‘There are always great deals no matter the size of your party. These can be directed to families, groups of adults travelling together and solo travellers as well.’ Setting off from Southampton could save cruise holidaymakers money (Image: Getty) Setting sail from Southampton could save British tourists money on their holiday as it means they won’t need to pay for a flight. Grace said: ‘As a total holiday no-fly cruises are likely to be some of the cheapest in the market due to no flight being required. ‘Whether you’re heading to the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands, the Baltic or the Norwegian fjords- to name just a few- taking a no-fly cruise from the UK offers some wonderful ships to choose from.’ The Norweigan fjords are easily reached from Southampton (Image: Getty) Cruise passengers usually have the option to purchase a drinks package rather than pay for additional drinks as they go. Grace said: ‘Where possible it is usually cheaper to pre-book your drinks package at the time of booking your holiday, you’ll get the best price and be confident that you know the cost of your holiday in advance. ‘It is worth noting that there are a very small number of cruise lines where you can only purchase the drinks packages online.’ Although it might not be helpful advice for last-minute holidaymakers, Grace recommends booking as early as possible. She said: ‘It is usually best to book early to be sure of the holiday availability you would like, there are often great deals and early booking incentives when new sailings are launched. ‘If you know exactly what you’d like to book, booking early will ensure availability. Summer holidays are often in great demand which is why it’s best to book early for these.’ Cruise passengers have warned guests to be very careful when they choose their cabin.
