Briton, 59, with persistent infection finally recovered after being given cocktail of antibodies to clear the virus from his system
A British man tested positive for Covid for 411 days before he finally recovered, doctors have reported, in what may be the longest recorded case of the virus where a patient survived.
The anonymous patient, a 59-year-old man, caught a strain of the coronavirus similar to the original Wuhan variant and tested positive during regular check-ups.
He was never admitted to hospital for Covid but tested positive repeatedly at outpatient appointments for a kidney transplant he had received previously.
Immunosuppressant drugs to ensure his body does not reject his organ also neuter the immune system’s ability to clear out a viral infection.
