Booster rollout brought forward as a ‘precautionary measure’ after the highly mutated Pirola variant was detected in the UK
A new programme of Covid vaccinations has been launched as the UK prepares for an expected rise in infections over the coming winter months.
People aged 65 and over, care home residents and health and social care staff are among those eligible to receive a booster jab.
Updated forms of the Covid vaccines will be used in the autumn campaign. These produce higher levels of protection against the different Omicron strains currently in circulation.
