Jill and Keith McCormack were planning a day out in the capital but were shocked to find a return ticket from their home in Liverpool would cost £101
A couple flew to Dublin for 10 hours because it worked out cheaper than a train ticket to London.
Jill, 51, and Keith McCormack, 57, were planning a day out in the capital but were shocked to find a return ticket from their home in Liverpool would cost £101, even with their Two Together railcard. Instead, they decided to take a “mad” trip to Dublin, costing just £36 each with Ryanair. They caught a 6.30am flight and were in the city centre by 9.30am.
Jill, a psychotherapist, said: “We wanted to go for London for the day. We’ve got a couple’s railcard and looked at the price of day trip and it came out at £101 return. It was ridiculous. The trains are scandalous. It was a £36 return for Dublin and a half-hour flight. It was a no brainer.”
Jill and Keith, who works an IT, like to take Fridays off to spend more time together and love to go for days out. Jill said: “We have fun day Friday. We do different things. We do things in Liverpool or go to the beach. Or we’ll go for lunch and have wine. We were looking for a weekend away.”
